Care and Conservation
We present our pictures in as fine a condition as possible.
Firstly, we select paintings which have been well cared for and which are already clean and
sound. With pictures of "a certain age", however, this is not always possible.
By the time they come into our possession, many inherently
attractive paintings are already showing inevitable signs of damage caused either by the
conditions in which they have been kept previously or the materials which were used years ago
in their original presentation. Watercolours are particularly vulnerable. We apply the highest
standards of care and attention to secure their condition and protect them from further damage.
Where necessary, pictures are sent away to be professionally cleaned by skilled, experienced
conservators and removed from the old card on which they were first glued down.
Our watercolours are presented in superb, acid-free washline
mounts which are skilfully cut, drawn and painted entirely by hand. If possible, we retain the
picture's original frame, restoring it where necessary. Otherwise, a bespoke frame is selected
to complete the picture's presentation.
Thanks to this professionalism and expertise, pictures whose
condition and value were previously being undermined are transformed, ready to hang on the
wall and provide years of pleasure.
