Heywood Hardy, who trained at l’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, specialised in equestrian, sporting and genre scenes and was also a highly accomplished portrait painter. His work was very much in demand. He was invited to paint at many country estates and had a number of distinguished patrons. His personal preference was for genre paintings, often featuring horses and dogs in the composition.
