Thomas James Lloyd was a highly accomplished painter of landscapes, genre, coastal and marine subjects. He exhibited widely from 1870, including 36 times at The Royal Academy and 85 times at The Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours, of which he was elected a member in 1886. He was also a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Lloyd lived in London before moving to Yapton in Sussex in 1894. His work sold well during his lifetime, proving very popular for its quality and the appeal of its subject matter.
