Michelle trained with her father, Bennett Oates (1928 – 2009), himself an internationally renowned flower painter. She paints in oils on board, the traditional medium favoured by the Dutch still life artists, and her detailed, colourful floral subjects display great skill and fluidity of technique. Michelle’s pictures take several weeks to complete as she builds up the layers of paint, scraping down each one before applying the next. Michelle is also well known for her wildlife and coastal scenes and she was elected to The Society of Wildlife Artists in 1983.
