Sir Wyke Bayliss specialised in painting the interiors of British and European churches and cathedrals. He studied at The Royal Academy Schools and The School of Design. He was elected a member of The Royal Society of British Artists in 1865 and served as the Society’s President from 1888 until his death. Bayliss was elected a Fellow of The Society of Antiquaries in 1870 and was knighted by Queen Victoria in 1897.
